TINY TIM HAS A TATTOO & AN OWIE 10 AUGUST 2009

Anita writes: Have you ever seen a dog with this tattoo? It's on his left hind leg upper inner thigh. [We ascertained it is a tattoo indicating that Tiny Tim had been neutered.] This is a wound (sore) that he has on his left hind leg just above his foot on the achilles tendon. It must bother him because he licks it a lot. I'll get the vet to look at it. We have been putting Neosporin® on it, but doesn't seem to be doing much good. We have a vet appointment for Tim at 2 p.m. this afternoon. The sore looks older, but we just noticed it last night. Everthing is going very well except that he & Darby are marking in the house. Tim is starting to handle being in his crate a little better. Doesn't howl for quite so long. Later that day: Everthing went very well at the vet. Tim is negative for heartworm, whatever might have been in his stool and for giardia. Dr. Kolder said the sore is probably from Tim being in a scrap with another dog. While at the vet, we did find some other scratches & scrapes. She said Tim must be a pretty good fighter in a fight or they would be much worse; they looked pretty bad to me. It is starting to heal up more now and he isn't licking it so much. Dr. Kolder didn't think he needed to be on antibiotics but will prescribe some if he doesn't heal well, but I don't think he will need any. She called the pound in Florida, where his rabies tag said he got his rabies shot, and they said they put the tattoo on when they neuter them. Learn something new every day, don't we?
