Sugaree Kneesel makes sure Todd doesn't take her favorite toy

I first came across Todd's picture when it was crossposted on Facebook amongst my Terrier-loving friends & dedicated rescuers. As I worked to get another Cairn to safety, Todd's picture & description (Scottie/Cairn mix turned in to the Youngs William Animal Center, Knoxville, Tennessee because his owners couldn't treat his skin condition*) ,stayed in my mind. He hadn't been getting a lot of interest on Facebook. I think everyone felt a good-looking, happy-go-lucky boy would surely get scooped up. Sadly, rescues everywhere are overflowing; he'd been awaiting rescue since 16 September.
(*Todd is likely allergic to fleas and developed a secondary infection due to lack of treatment and scratching. The vets feel confident that it is not much more than this but since food allergies are pretty common amongst cairns and scotties, the right treatment will ensure that Todd is cared for in the way a beloved pet should be).
Note the hair loss caused by allergies & scratching.
At 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, 30 September, I called Monica at the shelter. She said he needed a rescue commitment by 5 p.m. that day. Monica and the staff loved this little guy and it was breaking their hearts to think they were going to have to put him down. The shelter is bursting, as always, and they are forced to make hard decisions like these all the time. Even the best of shelters are forced to make these decisions.
To make an exciting, nail-biting, heart-pounding story of rescue shorter - many calls/emails/pleas went out to arrange the pull & transport of this little man in the nick of time. David W., a volunteer at the Knoxville shelter, filled in the missing 153 miles we needed to get Todd safely into the arms of CRUSA volunteer Katie Kneesel, who generously made room for Todd in her car (returning from a family reunion in Kentucky) and home and brought this sweet boy to Wisconsin.
The next chapter in Todd's journey is his transport from Wisconsin to Michigan on Sunday, 10 October. Thanks to several CRUSA members and the founder of Windy City Airedale Terrier Rescue & Placement, the transport from Wisconsin to Michigan will take place on Sunday, 10 October . . .
LEG 1 - Kenosha, Wisconsin to Hammond, Indiana -
Todd is highly adoptable. He will need some sponsors to help get him to the skin dogtor, but with his smile, charm & gentle spirit, he should be tucked into the heart of his new parents very soon. A little TLC is all Todd asks for; in return we are sure he will give years of love & happiness to a lucky dog parent.
So many people came together for Todd. His rescue & transport were completed in record time, pieced together by generous souls who were willing to give a little of their time, effort & energy to make sure Todd, the Cairn/Scottie dog, will KEEP ON WAGGIN'.
Many thanks to all who were part of Todd's first chapter in the second half of his life.
