Truman with Colleen's neighbor & best friend, Mary . . .

Colleen writes:
Truman is my foster and he is a very protective & bossy Cairn
(more than usual, if you can imagine that!).
He is extremely intelligent;
he had the stairs mastered in 20 minutes,
knew how to use the doggie door in one day
and was housebroken in two.
It amazes me at how quickly he picks up training;
I left him alone in the house for quite a while yesterday
and came home to no accidents. I am very impressed.

He likes to bark & snarl at anyone who
comes into my office or any room that I am in.
It is an annoying & very dangerous habit,
so I am working hard on getting him to
stop being protective of his position with me.
He is one of those dogs that is very fun & playful
& extremely bonded with his owner,
but he needs to have a very strong owner who is willing
to put him into his place or he will end up being a problem.

I have also had issues with him getting into
physical altercations with my alpha dog, Harry.
If Harry growls at him at all,
Truman will launch into an attack, leaving both of them with multiple injuries.
The good news is that it appears to only happen around me.
Harry wants to be primary in his position with me,
and so does Truman, so both of them have to be taught
that I am no one's property and they both have to back off.

The ideal home for Truman would be as an only dog;
I worry about kids with him because he is overly protective
at this stage of the fostering,
but he does learn fast and I'm all over him
when he tries to be bossy,
so I hope he will calm down once he feels more secure.
Plus, he was just neutered,
so once all those hormones wash out of his system,
he will be far less likely to fly into his fits of rage.
|
He loves to play and has
discovered the joy of toys.
He went to the dog park
with me on Saturday and
was very nice with all
the other dogs there.

|
He is very affectionate & super cute.
He is in good physical health considering how he was raised
and he listens very well, even though he doesn't
even know what his name is yet.
I have very high hopes for a fantastic future for
both of these little puppy mill survivors.
JUDY JOHNSON:
Really, really cute!
MARILYN ROYLE:
I am so happy to hear that Gracie is doing better;
I hope that Truman learns to share Colleen with others.
Our Katie has learned to share me with Frosty & Jeff,
so I know Truman can do it too! I think these puppy mill
survivors are so happy to find someone who loves &
cares for them that they never want to let them go!
