ROYCE MOVES NORTH

2 FEBRUARY 2009

Shannon Radosevich writes:

Royce is now seven months old; he was being fostered by Julie Lane since he was rescued from the Thorp Auction in September. About two weeks ago, he decided that the resident cats might be something he'd enjoy terrorizing . . . so he did! The cats had retreated to the basement in fear of their lives so Julie said it was time for him to move on.

Shannon, Royce & Julie

Julie & I agreed to meet on Saturday and make the transfer. Joe & I drove to Kenosha and picked him up from Julie. Now Joe & I were thinking he was going to be the size of a seven-month-old "puppy"; when Julie took him out of the car, we just started laughing. . . he is about 18-20 pounds and oh, so adorable! He is very handsome and has the most beautiful coat that I've ever seen on a Cairn.

It only took him a few days to start to be comfortable here. He is already stealing things from the wastebaskets, chewing Brian's slippers, harassing Maggy & Mickey, who both are saying, "Not again, mom", and he is chewing, chewing, chewing . . . everything except his toys!

Royce has never been created, so we thought we'd try this tonight for ten minutes to see what would happen. About two minutes into this experiment, we hear this high-pitched sound (almost like a bird chirping) and it gets worse and worse. . . I'm just thinking I will go and check on him when I hear this thump, thump, thump coming down the hall and around the corner and guess who it was? He somehow opened up the latch on the kennel and let himself out! So now I can add he is all cairn to his CRUSA webpage!!

He is a sweetie, very loving and loves to sleep with us in our bed. He is all puppy . . . I must have tossed the toys up & down our hallway today honestly about 50 times. He is doing well on his potty training; very smart little guy . . . already has gone to the patio door to be let out after only two days with us.

Anyone who gets him is getting a really great puppy! Both Joe and I are truly enjoying his antics and his youth . . . he makes you smile!

ROYCE GOES HOME

15 FEBRUARY 2009

Shell Lewis writes:

The last of the three Thorp pups got adopted today! He went to live with Janet LoMonica-Tominella and her husband, John. Janet teaches television production at Columbia College in Chicago and John is retired. Royce now has a seven-month-old brother named Micky (a Cairn/Pom mix) and the two are already great friends!

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.

Hmm . . . Yes there it is, right on the top -
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hide Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things
And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never re-pack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?
