On 8 July, Shell writes:
Monday, 5 July, at 6:30 a.m., I handed over little Randi to
Pilot Jim at the Lansing, Illinois airport
to begin her four-part journey to Rhode Island.
But what was meant to be a one-day trip ended up
being an overnighter as New England weather intervened.
No problem for the fly boys of Pilots 'N' Paws!

Pilot Bill,
who flew the second leg from
Lawrence County, Pennsylvania,
handed Randi off to Pilot Shaun
in New Jersey; Pilot Shaun &
his family offered to overnight
our furry passenger,
even taking her for ice cream!

On 6 July, Pilot Richard arrives in Rhode Island

Then bright and early this morning, Pilot Shaun flew leg #3
to meet up with Pilot Richard who flew the final leg
to Rhode Island where new mom Suzy anxiously waited.

There are no words to express my gratitude to these four phenomenal pilots
whom I know only by their first names and who are part of the
tremendous Pilots 'N' Paws organization.
And the cost of this service to our rescue group: ZERO.
They do it out of their love of flying and their love of animals.
It's such a privilege to work with them and with ALL the
CRUSA volunteers and partners. Every one of them played an important part
in Randi's journey from "heartworm positive Texas stray"
to "beloved companion".

On 8 July, Suzy writes:
Randi is snuggling right next me as I write this!
Randi was renamed Fiona. It was quite the journey.
I patiently waited while she was undergoing her heartworm treatments.
Colette L & her family, and Shell & Nora took amazing care of Fiona
and kept me updated almost daily on how she was doing.
Shell & the Pilots 'N' Paws pilots were unbelievable
with coordination of Fiona's travel itinerary -
she had four legs of transport!
There are no words profound enough to express my gratitude.
She loves, loves, loves kisses (and I love giving them to her!)

Nora writes: We are so lucky.
Shell made contact to see if we were interested in a new pup.
We were hesitant at first because our Roxy is almost 13 and can be grumpy.

Well, we got over that. Shell & Foster Mom Karen made it happen.
Shell even had to jump in and drive Pippa to Effingham
when the first-leg pilot [of Pilots & Paws] got sick.

Luckily, the Mississippi pilot
was willing to fly a bit farther
to get her to us.
What an amazing bunch
of folks! And this does not
include the ones involved in
getting her to the Chicago area.

Now about Pippa (we want to change
her name but can't decide yet).
She is 20 months old and an owner surrender.
As I understand it, her owner during COVID
lost her house and her business.
She got a new job that required travel,
so she gave up Pippa and her sister.
I know that had to be a tough decision.

Off to a new adventure, and a new home

I could get used to all this traveling.

Pippa is great.
She and Roxy are
doing better together every day.
She sleeps great in her crate
by our bed.
She is a very picky eater,
but we stumbled onto a mix
she will eat.
She is a snuggler
and loves people.

She is doing great on our walks.
We are working with her and our
doggy door. That might take
a while!
She really enjoys exploring
our backyard, too.

We have changed Pippa's name to Peanut! She is starting to respond to it (a little).
The doggy door is still a challenge!
