We have come to the conclusion that his behavior is that of a puppy.
Which makes sense seeing that he's been in a cage for six years.
He knows nothing as far as basic commands (stay, come, leave it, etc.),
and he has no manners. Joe & I are trying to get him to calm down
and listen enough to try to train him a bit!
He loves Smokey & Maggy, but they just tolerate him.
His tail never stops wagging, though.
And he's such a happy little guy; more so as time goes by.
He hasn't met a stranger yet!
He was pretty nervous and couldn't/wouldn't "settle" when he got here.
And of course does not want to go into a crate,
and I just couldn't make him do that.
So I cleaned out one side of the bottom of our closet,
put a soft blanket, and another blanket on the floor for a bed,
and he now has HIS space to go in to . . . and he loves it!
He is getting better about sitting on a lap, giving an occasional kiss,
lying in bed with, sitting on furniture.
His potty training is coming along nicely . . .
I tell you those belly bands are a godsend!
He's down to doing a little marking and
maybe has one or two accidents a day.
He loves me to death . . . follows me every where,
and I mean everywhere!
He doesn't let me out of his sight either. He's protective of me,
which I believe we have to try and change.
He loves Joe and our son Brian,
plus he likes children as far as we can tell.
I believe the couple who lives near me is willing to commit
to having a trainer come into their home and work with him.
And they are coming to meet him next week.
BOB ANDERSON:
Sounds like quite a bit of progress!
TONI BONNEY:
Oh, the Shannon & Joe magic. He sounds lovely, just confused a bit.
PATRICIA YARNOT:
Some of that reminds me of Bailey . . . .
JEAN LAWSON:
Sad beginnings. Hope he finds a good home, one that doesn't require crates. Seems like a sweet li'l guy who need lots of patience and love.
