ZOE'S DIAGNOSIS & PROGNOSIS
4 FEBRUARY 2017

Dr. Hathaway writes:

1) Her cell count is perfectly normal.
2) She has very mild changes with her kidney values and
has some protein in her urine which concerns me for possible early kidney disease.
I am okay with us not proceeding with a dental now that we learned this,
if that is what you are comfortable with.
3) She has some shifting with her blood proteins which can be consistent
with an inflammatory response or can indicate some protein loss.
Her urine does show evidence of protein loss -
so potentially this is part of the low albumin issue.
We can further analyze the protein loss in her urine
(ie. better quantify) with an additional urine protein test.
I recommend this and a blood pressure screen so we can determine
what meds/diet she needs to be on.
4) One of her liver values is mildly increased.
The cause of this may be many and this may be improving
considering we don't know where her values were previously.
5) Her thyroid function is normal and heartworm test negative.

In summary I am concerned with possible early kidney changes
or protein loss through her urine. Our options are:
1) Proceed with urine protein test and perform blood pressure check
OR 2) Recheck her senior wellness panel in one month
to see how she settles out after being in a stable environment again.

On 6 February, Dr. Hathaway writes:

So Zoe's values were not quite as bad as BUDDY's upon his first presentation.
That said, we can't predict how quickly her values will progress
based on just one screen/one snapshot in time.

We can proceed with her dental and take the slight risk
or we give her four weeks, recheck her panel and
see how her values are progressing over one month's time.
If notable progression is seen at that time,
it may change our want to perform her dental.

The decision was made to transition Zoe from her protein-rich foods
over to the low-fat/senior foods that the Skrenninger Quartet eats,
add FortiFlora, Dasuquin, milk thistle & Omega [left over from
BUDDY IN FLORIDA] to her diet, and retest on 28 February.

SCENES FROM ZOE'S LIFE WITH THE SKRENNINGER PACK
8 & 12 FEBRUARY

Ph Ph

Despite SIX new dog beds, FOUR crates with beds inside,
THREE couches, TWO (people) beds and FIVE chairs to sleep on,
Zoe prefers . . . a towel on the hard floor. Go figure.

She uses the towel to scratch her back . . .

. . . and it seems the cluster of warts on her head were itchy,
so I put hydrogen peroxide and Neosporin on it.
If/When Zoe gets her dental, her various warts will be removed,
as they bother her and she bites at the ones on her sides,
although the Neosporin seems to help.
I've also noted a mammary tumor that will have to be investigated.

12 FEBRUARY

We are working with her to become more social.
She does stay in the same room as we are; however, she is not [yet] a lapdog . . .

Ph

SweeTea, of course, is ALWAYS on somebody's lap . . .

Ph

. . . it's taken Heather THREE YEARS to get to the point of
staying on a chair or lap for several minutes.

Ph

For whatever reason, Zoe decided to explore the enclosed crates
(hers is an open wire crate) . . .

. . . and the next day,
she brought her Dr. Seuss
toy in there with her,
but that's the only time
she's played with her toy.

GOOD

Zoe has been perfectly housebroken
in the time she's been with us;
At night, she now sleeps on a dog bed
in my room and waits patiently
until the Quartet has been let outside,
then walks on lead with me to do her outsies
(she refuses to use the dogs's bathroom).
(I am so glad we are in Florida;
walking a dog in below-zero weather
is NOT my idea of fun!)
She knows WHICH driveway is HERS
and scampers home for breakfast;
her SIT for whipped cream is perfect.
Her foot no longer drags along.
 A very sweet girl.

As for Token, she is now in Chicago, being vetted for her new home . . .
