15 July
While having our morning coffee . . .
Zooey likes the AstroTurf™ in the dogs' potty pen . . .
16 July
. . . while Bailey makes sure I don't leave him
by lying on my foot as I work on my computer . . .
Bailey bit my hand when I picked him up;
I put it down to having startled him,
and thought no more about it.
A day or so after he & Zooey went home,
Patricia discovered a lump,
right in the area I had been holding him,
which would explain his reaction. Patricia writes:
Bailey's x-rays show he has a mass on his liver
that might have grown to his spleen.
His liver numbers are elevated.
Dr Grace was able to get us into
Blue Pearl this coming Tuesday
for a sonogram and consult with an oncologist.
We'll go from there.
On 22 August, Patricia writes:
Bailey is doing well. He had a good weekend.
He's up and following me around.
Wants to be picked up and cuddled.
His appetite is very good.
Poops are, too. He's just getting skinnier.
I think the steroids are helping him feel better.
I'm sure when it happens it'll be quick.
I'll keep you up to date on our sweet boy.

On 3 October 2023,
our beloved Bailey crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
You can read his CRUSA Rescue story HERE.
BECKY HAWKINS:
I am so sorry to read this news.
KEVIN DeKOVEN:
Very sorry to hear about the passing of Bailey. From your web entries, it seems like he was a sweet guy who found a wonderful home and a great life after you rescued him. Also hope that Zooey's blindness does not occur too rapidly and does not prevent Zooey from still enjoying a good quality of life.
RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here,
that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills
for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine
and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing:
they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together,
but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.
His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.
Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass,
faster and faster. You have been spotted,
and when you and your special friend finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face;
your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into those trusting eyes,
so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together . . .

CAMP SKRENNINGER WINDS DOWN . . .
With the recent abrupt Rainbow Bridge crossing of Bailey
and the increasing blindness of Zooey,
Camp Skrenninger has lost its most frequent patrons.
Teddie Check now has his own house/dogsitter,

Dogsitting has been enjoyable for us.
During Hurricane Irma in September 2017,
we had nine dogs with us -
six of our own and Booker, Zooey & Bailey.
At the 2018 Mini-CairnFest,
we had 14 dogs with us, albeit for just one day.
We thank those who trusted us with their beloved dogs.
CATHY BIERSACK:
I try to keep it at one Airedale guest as I still foster.
KAREN MORGAN:
You were blessed. Still are.
