LEROY GOES HOME! 3 JULY 2017
On 4 July, Shell writes: Earlier this week, a new foster person asked me if I was a paid volunteer for Cairn Rescue USA. I had a good giggle over that one, but the truth is that days like yesterday are worth their weight in gold. Yesterday, two of our toughest adoption candidates, Sad Sad Leroy Cairn & Jack, went to their forever home with Dr. Anita Charochak of Michigan, who met me in Indiana with her niece, Samantha. Leroy, some of you may remember, was literally at death's door in the Carson shelter in Los Angeles County when he came into our program. He was so depressed at the shelter that he had not eaten for two days and was literally starving himself to death. Around the same time, Jack found his way into Aurora Animal Control in Illinois with a collapsed trachea and compromised cardiac function. (The following pics are not necessarily in order, altho I tried . . .)
So many people were involved in the rescue, transport & rehabilitation of these two dogs . . . from Will Beaver who went to the Carson shelter and refused to leave when they didn't want to release Leroy . . . to Dave Kress who donated his Southwest miles to bring Leroy back to Chicago . . . to foster parents Karen Thomson-Utz, Bill Schumacher & Colleen Lake . . . all those who donated their time & funds to two scruffy terrier mixes . . . and especially to Dr. Charochak for offering these two boys a wonderful forever home! Believe me, I'm happier than I look! And I finally met Bill Schumacher. In fact, we had breakfast when we transferred Leroy . . .
	Earlier the same day, Anita Charochak writes: Waiting in parking lot in Schererville, Indiana to get Leroy & Jack! Excited! Leroy is a moose. He is a dog and a half long. The boys did well on the way home. Both are kissing dogs. Leroy wants to play with my sister's golden, Simba.
Sadee (f/k/a SADEE IN FLORIDA) deciding on what to think . . . . . . about her two new brothers . . . All dogs are very mellow. Leroy is a talker! Sad Sad Leroy Cairn is actually a gentle sweet guy.

4 July: First night [was] not too bad. The boys are trying to mark their territory, so I am glad I have belly bands. Everyone has a good appetite. A Bedful O' Dogs My little Tessa has warned both dogs that she needs her space. Jack is a lover and wants to be by me all the time. At 4 a.m., both boys wanted to be put up on the bed. Leroy slept right next to me for several hours. He has now claimed me and doesn't want me to pay attention to the other dogs. When I do he does a combination of talking and barking. Jack doesn't like this, but I'm sure it will all sort itself out. PICTURES ARE WORTH 1000s OF WORDS . . . I am amazed by the spirit of a dog like Leroy who went thru so much and is so loving. As I am writing this, he is sleeping with his head on my foot. Sadee is taking everything in stride and slept in one of the crates yesterday.

So many loving hands and hearts have gone into getting them into their forever homes. CRUSA and all involved can be pleased. The angels are surely smiling today.
